Pluggd, a Seattle based startup, has raised $1.65m in funding from Intel and angel investors to help it start distributing its technology.
Pluggd is a podcast directory, but what makes it special is its ‘HearHere’ technology, which allows users to search within audio internet programming to find the segments they want.
Initially, Google will provide a version of Google Mail using the @sky.com domain name, as well as a video-sharing service which will use Google’s video content tools.
In addition, the deal will see the two media giants collaborate on display advertising, with Google providing search advertising across BSkyB’s websites, with money generated by click-throughs to be shared between them.

The prices are reasonable too, at 99p for a TV programme, and films at £1.99. This compares favourably to BT Vision’s online download service, which charges £9.99 for films, even older ones. The programmes are available to watch for 30 days after transmission.
