About me

Hi everyone, my name is Laura Zucchetti and I live in Sydney, Australia with my boyfriend. What do I do? Well, like to think of myself as a User Experience professional. This means making websites that are useful and usable for the likes of you and me. And no, this doesn’t mean boring ugly websites! If you have the right UXD method, the creative layer sits on top of a well architected site and enhances the usability of a site. That’s the balance which is so hard to strike, with importance often being on one more than he other; design over function and vice versa.

What’s this site about?

I originally wanted to get this site up and running to talk about web usability, accessibility and good new-fashioned web development. I did this by writing my own articles and sometimes advertising some well documented external links that are well worth the read. Of course the whole site has mutated into my online parking ground for useful references, through Delicious links and the occasional blog post. So many people are blogging these days, I find I am reading blog posts rather than writing them. If you have any questions please feel free to comment on any articles posted. I’ve kept all the posts I’ve written as I still find some of the links and content useful.

My Background

I have been using the Internet since 1995 and working with it from 1999. In the last few jobs, my skill base is much more specialised in User Experience Design; it is what I enjoy most and find it to be a rewarding area to work in.

I have been self-taught over years and have been going to as many events as I can afford and cram in. I would like to thank Gordon for helping me get my first *real* job at Microlise all those years ago, which is what gave me the chance to experience many different things in media at the time and helped me choose web as my area to dive into. In 2002 I started a degree in BA Hons Design for Digital Media. I was lucky enough to be able to do this whilst working full time. I am now a proud owner of an Upper Second Class Bachelors of Arts(Hons) in Digital Media.

I have just left London where I was happily working at Snow Valley developing e-commerce websites for popular UK retail stores in the talented UXD team. I am now working at Stamford Interactive with a talented team of people in Sydney, Australia.
