What I do

Hi everyone, my name is Laura Zucchetti and I live in England, United Kingdom with my boyfriend. Who am I? What do I do? Well, I am not sure of the exact job title I would apply to myself but ones I have had include: Webmaster, Web Designer, Multimedia Developer and Technical Author! I like to think of myself as a User Experience Designer.

I currently work for a large independent games developer in the UK. I maintain the company website and develop game pages for our new titles as and when they are released. The most recent games include Batman Begins, Robots, ATHENS 2004, Spyro the Dragon: A Hero’s Tail and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I moderate the company games forum and also work on numerous other internal web related bits and bobs which I can’t go into; I’d have to kill you.

I recently left Eurocom as webmaster/webmistress and joined a travel company in the Midlands, UK as a web designer. I work within a web team with other skillful “web” individuals. We are currently going through a very exciting time with lots of “new things” in development. I couldn’t possibly go into details just now, so I’ll post new projects up here when I can.

The Office

I work at Jupiter Design in Ruddington, Nottingham as web developer and usability front-woman in the digital team. We work on a variety of exciting digital solutions that require a team of dedicated and talented staff. I am blessed to work with a great team at Jupiter, and it’s a fab environment to work in. I will boast about new projects as and when I am permitted! :)

I am currently working as a freelance front-end web developer, offering XHTML coding, CSS built sites, wire-frame UI design, site structures and navigation systems, usability testing, accessibility reviews and recommendations.

I am happily working at Snow Valley in London developing e-commerce websites for popular UK retail stores. I am not looking for or taking on any new work at this time, so please do not contact me with job opportunities. :)

What’s this site about?

I wanted to get this site up and running to talk about web usability, accessibility and good new-fashioned web development. I do this by writing my own articles and sometimes advertising some well documented external links that are well worth the read. Throughout the site you’ll find some links to the most useful tips and tutorials on how to make the web work. If you have any questions please feel free to comment on any articles posted, as feedback and discussion is a key activity to progression and learning on the web.

My Background

I have been using the Internet since 1995 and working with it from 1999. My skill base is specialised in front end web development, UXD, usability and accessibility; it is what I enjoy most and find it to be a rewarding area to work in.

I have been self-taught over years and have been going to as many events as I can afford and cram in. :) I would like to thank Gordon for helping me get my first *real* job at Microlise all those years ago, which is what gave me the chance to experience many different things in media at the time and helped me choose web as my area to dive into. In 2002 I started a degree in BA Hons Design for Digital Media. I was lucky enough to be able to do this whilst working full time. I am now a proud owner of an Upper Second Class Bachelors of Arts(Hons) in Digital Media.

If you would like to find out more about my work experience, qualifications and myself please, feel free to contact me via the online form for a copy of my c.v. Or you can have a peek at my shorter online profile/CV version.

Thanks for visiting. :)
